Libyan Iron and steel company

The Libyan Iron and steel is considered one  of the largest industrial companies in Libya , located on an area of 1,200 hectares near the town of Misrata , just 210 kilometres to the east of the city of Tripoli .

The design capacity of the company's 1.324 million tons of liquid steel per annum adopting direct reduction of iron pellets using domestic natural gas .

The foundation stone was laid for the company in 18/09/1979 , marking the award of heavy manufacturing base in Libya .

On 09/09/1989 the opening of production units and so the company has entered the stage of production.

And the company has the following production units :

1 -  direct reduction plant ( 3 units ) .

2 –steel melt shops(1.2 ) .

3 -   bar and rod mills ( 4 lines ) .

4 -  light and medium section mill .

5 – hot strip mill.

6 - cold strip mill .

7 - galvanizing line .

8 - coating line .

 It also includes many of the ancillary units and facilities , including:

1 - port and pellet stock yard.

2 -  power and water desalination plant.

3 -  oxygen and compressed air.

4 - lime plant .

5 - Central Workshop .

6 - Training Centre .

7 - quality control laboratories .

8 - The resort and beach club .

As part of the company's interest and strive to respond to the customer's requests , and to impose its position in international markets between steel companies the company  has  adopted  a system of international standards for quality (iso 9001/2000) and formed a council for quality assurance of the effectiveness of its application and in order to achieve desired goals , the Libyan Iron and Steel company has acquired the twelfth Europe Award of quality in 1998 , and obtained the international quality certificate (iso 9001/2000 ) on 25/03/2002 .
